An efforts to estimate numerically a material degeneration of drawing dies by means of computer image analysis methods

Abstract:

The wear of the die eyelets, in the wire drawing process, depends significantly on applied lubricating-cooling agent. Among many results of former complex investigations, the metallographic images of surface layers of the die eyelets were obtained. The paper describes computer analysis of these images to obtain numerical characteristic of degeneration of material and especially structural defects like the loss of binding metal – cobalt. Several methods, including automatic and arbitral selection of features, were applied and compared. Discussion of results was carried out.
