Method of interpretation of results of plane strain compression tests for evaluation of rheological parameters of materials

Abstract:

Plane strain compression tests to investigate effects of heterogeneity of deformation for various initial specimen geometries have been carried out. Equations for correction of nominal strain and strain rate to slip line field strain and strain rate have been developed and applied to experimental flow stress – strain data. Investigation of the deformed specimens showed evidence of changing friction conditions during deformation, therefore, a simple function allowing friction to change was applied. The corrections eliminate the geometry effect observed in the initial data. Correction method for experimental load-displacement data has been developed and it was used in a two dimensional finite element model applied as a direct model in the inverse technique. Capabilities of the inverse technique when it is applied to plane strain compression tests were verified for various dimensions of the specimens and compared with the analytical correction method.
