Abstract:

This article includes basic information about working of electric arc furnace (EAF) and modern research method – Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) – used among other things in metallurgy fields. Paper also contains few samples how CFD helped to solve and analyse problems strictly combined with work of EAF. Example computer model of off-gas duct was defined for this article. Based on this model series of numerical simulations were conducted. These calculations aim at solve problem of fumes flow inside of cooling duct taking into account CO combustion process. Results of described above CFD simulations and their brief analysis were included into this article.
